Steamship Blidösund moored at quay in Stockholm.
Steamship Blidösund was refurbished in 1969. Despite eight years of dormancy the ship was basically in good condition. Boiler and engine were safe and sound.
Parts of the plating had to be replaced and the propeller and the
propeller shaft overhauled.

The engine room aboard Steamship Blidösund

Steamship Blidösund has a coal fired Scotch marine boiler
with three furnaces.
The stoker is banking up the furnace, i.e., he packs embers and coals tight
together so they don't burn but smoulder. Next morning there will be sufficient
live coal to start up the fire again.

The crosshead and the connecting rod for the high pressure piston and also
eccentric
sheaves and valve-gear for both pistons.
The Flodman's valve-gear works very much like the
Klug's
valve-gear and it is used on many of the ships in the Stockholm steamship
fleet.
